Members

By becoming a member of AFHM, you can contribute to, advance and improve the living situations of women with disabilities; make your voice heard during our annual general meeting and thus, become a part of the progress of AFHM.

To become a member of AFHM, any woman or women’s group must respect our mission, objectives, bylaws and  complete our membership form. A request to join is also valid if it is submitted in other formats that allow women to express themselves (i.e. audiotape).

The membership is valid for the period of April 1 until March 31 of the following year.

There are three different categories of membership :

  • Active member: Any woman who self-identifies as a woman with disability, can be an active member.
  • Supportive member: Any non disabled woman can apply to be an observing member. She will not have voting rights and cannot be elected for the Board of Directors.
  • Partner member:  Any association (or group) which works to improve the conditions of women and who agrees to follow the mission and objectives of AFHM.
    This association or group by must be represented by a woman mandated by their decisional bodies The partner members do not have voting rights at the Annual General Meetings and cannot be elected for the Board of Directors.
  • Honorary Members: The Board of Directors can nominate as an honorary member any woman who by her past participation within AFHM has earned this title. However, the total number of honorary members should not be higher than ten percent (10%) of the total number of active members.
